@Gabz But I definitely remember the food! My Dad still makes pretty good rice and pigeon peas from time to time, and we still get together with some friends and famil for three kings after christmas.

@Gabz I lived there from about age 4 to around 8 and a half. We were there for my Dad's job. Unfortunately, I didn't continue using spanish much after we moved back to Virginia and I lost most of it. I basically had to start over from (near) zero when I started taking it in high school and never really got it down again.
@Gabz That sounds amazing, and takes me back to the (shockingly good) school lunches I had when I was a little kid in Puerto Rico (and other meals too but for some reason those school lunches really stick with me, probably because I had them every day). I was a rice and beans eating machine!
@macgenie We got an InstantPot for the holidays. Very excited to get some more recipes to try!
@vincent @jack - Here's the basic info: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?ie=UTF8&nodeId=200444180 If you sign in and go to "Your Account," then click on "Prime," Then "See All Your Prim Benefits," Then down at the bottom under "Other Benefits" is a link for "Share Your Prime Benefits" which shoudl take to to where you can add another adult to share your Prime Membership. They also have a "household" thing now which might do the same thing, but that's not how we set it up years ago, and I don't know what, if anythign is different about doing the sharing through a "household."
@vincent @jack - They sort of do! I think with a normal Prime subscription you can share it with (at least) one family member, and they get their own Prime subscription, at not extra cost. That's the situatin with my wife and I. I have the Prime subscription, but she gets all the benefits on her (separate) Amazon account.
@jack That is so great! Thanks for sharing that!
@khurtwilliams I had a longer reply but just removed it because it was unecessarily long and might not have come across the way I wanted (which is friendly!). The bottom line for me is that I personally think calendars are all arbitrary anyway, and can be, and have been changed numerous times. If we as a people want to declare a decade like "the twenties" to be all the years that have a 2 in the tens place then that's fine. If that means someone wants to go back and declare that the first decade of the calendar is only 9 years long... well that's ok too. It's all arbitrary and made up by us anyway, so why not? Anyway, just my two cents. Happy New Year!
@macgenie Well if/when you decide to do it I wrote up several blog posts about my experience doing just that! (and I'd be happy to answer specific questions too of course)
@macgenie Hmmm... I'm not really up on hosting options these days. I do know my email service, Fastmail, also lets you host relatively simple static websites. If by chance you use Fastmail for your email that might be an option. I'll ask around among my friends too.
@eli Awesome!
@DrOct So, not nearly as similar from other angles, but at a very basic level the two building have a similar structure. (Here's a link to some images of the George Mason Masonic Temple near where I live here in the US!: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=george+washington+masonic+temple&t=ffab&iar=images&iax=images&ia=images)
@ayjay I assumed it probably wasn't the from Alexandria, but at least from that angle they look very similar! I'll have to look up some pictures of that building and see how similar they look from other angles!
@ayjay Great picture! Where is that? (It looks a lot like the Masonic Temple in Alexandria, VA!)
@davextreme I totally get avoiding it. I did the same until about a week ago when I gave it a shot after being told by our friend Jordan that it was good. I was hooked pretty quickly. I think you shared something on twitter a while back about how Alan Moore hadn't always been against the idea of adapting his works to the screen, but Hollywood had treated him so poorly, and done such a poor job of it that he seems to have been soured on the whole thing. I think this is exactly the sort of thing he was probably hoping would happen before he was soured on Hollywood. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts.
@klandwehr Oh! Yeah I have one of those (or something extremely similar). I don't need it too often, but when I do I'm always really really glad I have it.
@davextreme Great post! I think I agree with pretty much all of it. I'm still excited about Rise of the Skywalker but have the same kind of concerns about Abrams being at the helm.
@davextreme Unfortunately probably all true.
@manton Congratulations!
@davextreme You were correct. I DID like that!
@Miraz We have one side of our house that is pretty far up and I always hated getting up on a (borrowed) ladder to reach it and clean it out. When we got our gutters replaced a few years ago (at the same time we had our roof replaced) I had them put on "gutter guards" (a mesh that keeps out leaves and other stuff, but lets water flow through just fine) to keep large particulate stuff (like leaves etc.) from getting in them. That doesnt' guarantee we'll never have to clean them again but it does seem to have worked very well for the past 3 years! You might look into whether there is something like that you could install on your gutters so you don't have to worry about this kind of thing again once they are clean!
@Ron Good to hear! I’ll have to check out the others in the series!
@ron - As the biggest Dylan fan I know, I thought I'd ask if you knew about about this album of outakes and such that seems to have just come out this month. I just came across one of the tracks featuring Johnny Cash and really liked it!
@davextreme @smokey I also ::spoilers for season 2:: still refuse to believe that Hal Cooper was the Black Hood. I just don’t buy it.😉
@davextreme @smokey I’m happy to slag Riverdale. I gave up after last season. It just went too far off the rails for me. Mostly it was just how inconsistent all the characters were. It was clear they were just doing what the (rather poorly thought out) plot demanded from moment to moment, rather than anything based on their personalities or motives. It continued to have fun parts too but I just rolled my eyes more and more and finally just said enough after the season was over.
