@manton No problem! Glad it was an easy fix!
@manton No problem! Glad it was an easy fix!
@help, @manton - I just noticed that It appears I'm no longer seeing any posts from Mastodon in my timeline.
@smokey I haven’t thought about Omniweb in a very long time but yeah it was great at the time!
@cheri I deleted my FB account a while back too and have been glad I did. I wasn't a heavy Facebook user, though I went through phases where I was, so I don't think I've seen effects quite as big as you have, but I have definitely been surprised by how little I've missed it. I do occasionally wish I knew a bit more about what a few acquaintances were up to, but if I really want to find out I'll connect with them in a more meaningful way, which is nice. Anyway, great post! I especially like the part about being more intentional and careful about what tech you adopt.
@smokey It makes me uneasy to. But I would mention that Mozilla is still doing it's thing, and doing a great job recently! I switched from Chrome to Firefox on my work computer several months ago and have been very happy with it.
@brentsimmons Same (about forgetting I had a Quora account). My wife was also surprised to find that she had one. We both deleted ours. Quora's model of "set up an account just so you can see an answer" snagged a lot of people, but clearly didn't lead to a lot of engagement, if the number of people to hear they had an account is any indication.
@cheri Wow!
@Moltz Ha!
@joesteel Great blog post! I agree with most of it! I'm hoping they will put out a cheaper AppleTV AND make built in apps for TV's and other boxes. Also I hope they come up with a cheaper (and better) remote (it wouln't take much to be better).
@rosemaryorchard Wow! Those pictures are beautiful! And I can't imagine more appropriate weather for a medieval Christmas market!
@Gargron ha!
@davextreme hmmm... both the theaters near me are showing it...
@dan @blankbaby. Same!
@DrOct @davextreme (From a historical/cultural standpoint I think that last bit in the article I linked above about the "say what's in this drink" line is interesting and explains a lot, but I still don't put the song on any of my playlists for all of the above reasons)
@davextreme I applaud your change! I've actually read another article (http://persephonemagazine.com/2010/12/listening-while-feminist-in-defense-of-baby-its-cold-outside/) that convinced me that Baby It's Cold Outside doesnt' quite depict events the way they sound to the modern ear, but I agree the even in the best reading of it, the context in which it's happening is still messed up.
Also, even if you can get over all of that I think the way it comes across to a modern ear is also worth considering. It sure sounds like a date-rape to a modern listener, and unless someone gives a short lecture every time the song is played to explain all the references and the historical context, it's still going to contribute to the cultural idea that men should ignore a woman saying no and just keep pressuring women until they relent and say yes.
@darius The grill really is the way to do a turkey, in my experience. Looks great!
@Gaby How cute!
@manton this seems like the way to go.
@Gaby all your food pictures look so great!
@sjml This is a wonderful sentiment and set of things to think about. 👍
@darius This is the happy ending to the story I was hoping for!
@cheri Hmmm... good question! If you find an answer I'll be interested too!
@hartlco I'm looking forward to my next car (probably at least 3 or 4 years away though) having it.
@sjml 😂
@Mattfinlayson It's amazing what too much success can do. It sounds like it was a great place. Hopefully they'll find a way to open up again.
